Richmond loop ![]() | Picked by Victor van Aswegen Richmond Loop is a multimedia collaboration between New Music composer Michael Blake and conceptual artist Emma Willemse. The artwork is a response to a 14-day artist residency at Modern Art Projects South Africa (MAPSA) in the Karoo town Richmond. For their creative collaboration at the residency, the artists set themselves the task of collecting at least 10 visual and sound fragments each day during their walks through the town. Michael Blake collected sounds from the area with a Zoom recorder while Emma collected visual fragments of overlooked details with a cell-phone camera. Two years after the residency the artists manipulated their collection of sounds and imagery to construct a carefully composed, structured and integrated sound and visual collage, comprising layered sounds and images with a duration of 16 minutes. |
