This October, we’re bringing you a blend of inspiring South African talent and thrilling film marathons, making it a month you won’t want to miss!

🎥  Our Curator: Marciel Hopkins🎥

This October, we are proud to have Marciel Hopkins as our curator. 🌟 Marciel is a South African TV presenter, international model, actress, life coach, and motivational speaker. A top 12 finalist in Miss South Africa 2015, Marciel's inspiring personal journey from weight loss to body positivity has made her a powerful voice for self-love and transformation. Her charm and influence extend beyond beauty; she is well known for her role as the host of Boer Soek ’n Vrou, where she connects farmers with love and helps bring genuine relationships to life on screen.

On Thursday, 17 October at 19:30, Marciel will be visiting Neelsie Cinema to celebrate the Boer Soek ’n Vrou finale with us! 🌾👩‍🌾 You’ll have the chance to watch the final episode of this heartwarming show, alongside the presenter herself. Invite your friends, your family, or anyone who loves a good love story—it’s going to be a night filled with excitement, laughs, and maybe even a few tears as we watch these farmers' journeys come to a close. 🎥 Bridget Jones Movie Marathon

We’re diving into a full day of laughs, love, and plenty of awkward moments with our Bridget Jones Movie Marathon on Wednesday 16 October. 📝💘 Whether you’re a die-hard fan of this hilarious rom-com series or watching for the first time, this marathon will have you rooting for Bridget through all her highs and lows. From her unforgettable first encounter with the charming yet awkward Mark Darcy to her hilarious and heartfelt journey of self-discovery, Bridget’s relatable misadventures never fail to entertain. Keep the love going all month long with our weekly Boer Soek ’n Vrou Watch Party every Thursday night at 20:00. 💕 This beloved Afrikaans dating show follows South African farmers as they search for true love, and each episode brings heartwarming moments, surprises, and plenty of romance. Whether you’re cheering for your favorite couple or just enjoying the beautiful farm scenery, these watch parties are the perfect way to unwind with friends. 🎥 Garden Town Film Festival

Calling all film lovers! Don’t miss the Garden Town Film Festival, running from 25 October to 31 October with an extra screening on 3 November. 🎬🌿 This festival is a celebration of both local and international filmmaking talent, featuring a curated selection of thought-provoking, visually stunning, and emotionally powerful films.  All screenings will begin at 13:00, making it the perfect way to spend your afternoons in late October.

🎥 Wednesday Night Screams

For all the horror fans, we’ve got a special treat this Rock-tober with our Wednesday Night Screams featuring the Scream franchise. Every Wednesday at 22:00, join us for one of the classic Scream films, from the original 1996 masterpiece that turned the slasher genre on its head, to the modern-day sequels that keep the thrills and chills coming. 😱 Prepare for jump scares, mystery, and iconic one-liners as we dive into the world of Ghostface and the terrifying murders that shake the small town of Woodsboro. Horror doesn’t get better than this!

 🎥 Halloween Scare Fest

Spooky season is upon us, and we’re celebrating with a full day of scary movies on Halloween Day, 25 October! 🎃👻 From slasher flicks to supernatural horror, we’ll be screening some of the most terrifying films that are guaranteed to get your heart racing. Whether you’re a horror fanatic or just looking for a frightful way to celebrate Halloween, come join us for a day of spine-chilling scares. Costumes are highly encouraged!

🎥 Cinemate: Solo Filmmaker’s Community

Are you a filmmaker or media enthusiast? Join us on 8 October for the next Cinemate event at Neelsie Cinema. Hosted by local filmmaker Juan de Swardt, this event is perfect for solo filmmakers or anyone passionate about the craft of filmmaking. You’ll have the chance to participate in a Q&A, discuss filmmaking techniques and gear, and network with other creators. 🎬 Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been creating for years, this is a great opportunity to share ideas, get inspired, and connect with the local film community.
